And the stockings were hung by the chimney with care. The last piece of the living room remodel is finished: the mantle! Vic has been spraying coats of paint on it after work for the last week and tonight I got it back up. It’s been many years since we lived anywhere with a mantle and I’m really excited to decorate it. Of course, as the Christmas decorations went up this year I hit a design snag. The colors are all wrong!
Our last house had gray walls with a red accent wall and red geometric curtains in the living room. Over the years I had curated a whimsical bright Christmas palate that looked amazing in the space. The blue and gray subtle and cooler tones of our new living room suddenly make my decorations feel childish and out of place. With no budget or time to replace everything, I’m just making do for this year. I’ve already purchased some beautiful gold and cream fabrics to sew new stockings and tree skirt, and I plan to be at Target the day after Christmas to snag some half price decor for next year. Who doesn’t love a bargain?
Check out some pictures of the decor in our old place and the new house and you’ll see what I mean. Enjoy, and have a happy holiday season!
The colors looked so fun and bright in the old house!
Still pretty, but too bold for the rest of the room, don’t you think?
